For more than 26 years NHS of the Fox Valley has been providing home-improvement loans and home ownership programs to Elgin residents from all financial backgrounds.

NHS of the Fox Valley offers the following services:

Loans:

• Affordable mortgages for first-time homebuyers purchasing a home in Elgin
• Affordable Refinance loans to get out of high-cost or predatory loans and avoid foreclosure
• Affordable second mortgage loans for borrowers purchasing homes with first mortgage financing from an NHS partner-lender
• Emergency repair loans (income eligibility requirements)

Education:

• Free 4-part Homeownership classes (in both English & Spanish), offered weekly in Elgin. Register for classes by calling 1-800-660-1995.
• Periodic workshops focusing on home safety, avoiding foreclosure, and 'Aging In Place' (for senior homeowners)

Consultation & Counseling:

• Individual counseling for new homebuyers to help them get pre-approved for an affordable mortgage loan before they make the offer on a home
• Consultation for existing homeowners who are strugging with their mortgage payments; assistance with preventing foreclosure or with refinancing into a more affordable loan
• Mortgage review to help homeowners assess their options

Deferred Loans:

• Deferred loans for first-time home buyers purchasing a home in Elgin (income eligibility and residency requirements)

Tool & Paint Program:

• Paint Coupons for members of the NHS of the Fox Valley
• For members, table & chair rental for neighborhood & community functions
