NHS of the Fox Valley - revitalizing your neighborhood.
Neighborhood Housing Services (NHS) began in Elgin in 1981. In 2007, the NHS program in Elgin affiliated with the NHS of Chicago and officially changed its name to NHS of the Fox Valley. As a long-time member of the national NeighborWorks®
America network, NHS has
invested over $16 million into Elgin's housing stock and in neighborhood
development activities since 1981.
NHS has worked cooperatively
with the City of Elgin, local community groups, and business partners to help revitalize and
strengthen Elgin's neighborhoods. This partnership of local residents and homeowners,
neighborhood organizations, the business and financial communities, and the City of Elgin has resulted in the rehabilitation of nearly one thousand properties across
Elgin.
Opening
the Door to Home Ownership
Well-maintained and affordable homes
serve Elgin in many ways; they illustrate and preserve the unique character
of the varied styles of architecture in each neighborhood,
they stabilize housing values throughout the city, and they make Elgin
an affordable option for first-time and low and moderate-income home buyers.
Homeownership has been proven to create stronger families and benefit
communities by fostering neighborhood stability and economic growth. NHS of the Fox Valley is dedicated to providing opportunities for home ownership through free Homeownership classes and affordable loans for home purchase and home improvement.
